When I designed this styled shoot at European Garden House in North County San Diego, I wanted to show just how beautiful and personal an intimate San Diego wedding can be. With a smaller guest list, there's space to lean into thoughtful details, creative storytelling, and design that feels truly meaningful. This shoot brought all of that to life - romantic, modern, and a little bit unexpected.

A Romantic Garden Venue in North County San Diego
European Garden House is one of my favorite hidden gems for an intimate wedding in San Diego. Tucked into the hills of San Marcos and surrounded by greenery, it feels like a European countryside escape - but it's just a short drive from the city. The venue offers a peaceful, private setting that allows the design to really shine while giving guests an experience that feels far away from the everyday.
The Vision: Timeless Design with Playful, Personal Touches
For the design, I used a fresh, natural palette of blue, white, and green. It felt clean, soft, and calming - the perfect fit for the garden setting. We layered in lush florals and plenty of candlelight to bring in warmth and softness. The goal was to create something romantic and organic, with modern edges that still felt timeless.
Instead of traditional table numbers, UME Design Studio placed single pieces of fruit scattered throughout the table and one marked with the table number - a subtle but playful detail that added texture and kept things feeling effortless and natural.
Creative Guest Experiences and Details
I’m always looking for ways to make weddings feel more personal and interactive. For this shoot, UME Design Studio and I came up with one of my favorite ideas came to life in the form of a museum-style thank-you wall. Each guest had their name displayed next to a fine art print and a light-hearted roast - a fun, gallery-inspired way to celebrate everyone who showed up. It was witty, personal, and completely unexpected.

We also set up an interactive sticker machine, from Peel Good Co., filled with custom-designed California stamp stickers that matched the overall look and garden feel of the day. It gave guests and wedding couple a playful moment and a keepsake they could actually use - and it tied seamlessly into the design.
Menus were printed directly onto the ceramic plates for a polished, elevated look, and the lace-detailed invitation suite brought in just the right touch of classic romance.
Why Intimate Weddings in San Diego Work So Well
There’s something really special about designing for a smaller wedding. When the guest count is low, you can be more intentional with every element (and your budget) - from the venue and the table design to the way guests are welcomed and thanked. This shoot was proof that an intimate San Diego wedding doesn’t have to be simple or scaled down - it can be thoughtful, elevated, and full of personality.
This shoot was one of my favorite examples of how intentional design and personal storytelling can come together to create something truly special. If you’re dreaming of an intimate wedding that feels quiet, stylish, and full of meaningful details - we’d love to help bring your vision to life.
